Spotlight was formed in late 1993 by an initial group of five, to produce two high quality musicals each year for the enjoyment of the people of Beccles and the surrounding areas. 

In 1994, the first show was born, 'Gigi' and there began our commitment and promise for the future.  Since those humble beginnings we have grown in strength and number and now have a strong membership of all ages.  

Spotlight is now firmly established in the Waveney Valley, attracting people from far and wide to come and support our two musical shows each year.  We usually rehearse for 4 to 5 months for each show.  Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we often have social and fundraising events throughout the year to strengthen our team and our budget.

In 2001 we presented ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and were nominated and awarded the National Operatic & Dramatic Association’s Best Production for 2001 in Region 6.  This was followed with a second nomination and award in December 2006, for our production of ‘The Hired Man’, written by Melvin Bragg.  A third nomination and award was presented to Spotlight for their production of Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, in June 2008.   With these three awards under our belt, Spotlight continues to strive for the highest standards possible.  Come and be a part of this award winning society!
